RUSSIA'S FIRST GRAIN TERMINAL OF LOUIS DREYFUS COMPANY STARTS WORKING IN ROSTOV REGION

Today, on May 2, Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) officially launched its grain terminal in the Rostov region. The ceremony of the grand opening of the terminal was attended by the Governor of the Rostov Region Vasily Golubev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Louis Dreyfus Holding B.V. Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Russian Federation Yves Rossier.

The terminal, which includes two berths and ten silos with a total capacity of 50,000 tons, is located in the Azov district, near the mouth of the Don river. The terminal will be used for transshipment of grain to vessels of mixed type "river-sea". At the initial stage, the export potential of the terminal will be 800,000 tons per year, in the future - 1 - 1.2 million tons.

"Historically, Russia has always played a special role for our Group, which has been operating here since 1864," said Margarita Louis-Dreyfus. - Growing more than 100 million tons of grain a year, today Russia is one of the world's leading producers and exporters of wheat and barley. At the same time, the potential for further growth in production is enormous. We are convinced that Russia will remain the dominant player on the world agricultural market, therefore we have significantly strengthened our presence here by investing in several major grain assets over the past 10 years."

The agreements of cooperation for the implementation of the project for the construction of the Louis Dreyfus Company grain terminal in the Rostov region were achieved by the Governor Vasily Golubev and Chairman of Louis Dreyfus Holding B.V. Margarita Louis-Dreyfus at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June 2015. The project was implemented with the assistance of the Investment Promotion Agency of Rostov region, and the constant support of the regional authorities.

According to Louis Dreyfus Company’s head for grain and supply platforms, the head for Europe, Africa and the Middle East David Ohayon, the Azov facility is the first grain terminal in Russia, along with five representative offices and ten elevators. With the launch of the terminal in the Rostov region, the total capacity of Louis Dreyfus Company facilities in Russia will exceed 1.2 million tons. The strategic location of the terminal at the mouth of the Don gives new opportunities in the field of logistics and export of agricultural products. The Louis Dreyfus Company emphasizes that the successful implementation of the project in the Rostov region contributes to the Russian government's plans to increase grain production and exports by 2020, facilitating access to world markets for local farmers.

"During the implementation of the Louis Dreyfus Company project in the Azov district, the starting volumes of transshipment of export cargoes at the new terminal were revised upwards (from 500 to 800 thousand tons per year). As a result, the volume of investments has also increased from 1.5 billion rubles to 2 billion rubles", notes Igor Burakov, the CEO of the Investment Promotion Agency of Rostov Region. "For the Louis Dreyfus Company, the competitive advantages of the Rostov region are obvious for the localization of projects in the field of agriculture and the food industry, and we are consistently moving along the path of multiplying the investment of one of the world's largest agro-industrial companies in the Don region."

Let's add that Louis Dreyfus Company calls its project in the Rostov region "a return to Russia". In the nineteenth century, Louis Dreyfus was the largest foreign investor in the food sector in Russia, it had about a hundred production facilities here.
